Medical Coding is a great career opportunity for someone who wants to work behind the scenes on the business side of healthcare, instead of hands-on with patient care.
Each time a patient receives treatment, a detailed record is maintained containing observations, medical or surgical interventions and treatment outcomes. Coders are responsible for assigning a code to each specific diagnosis or procedure. They consult classification manuals, but they also rely on their acquired knowledge of disease processes. Medical Coders are detail-oriented and enjoy doing research.
